Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that as part of the new Heatherwood hospital development, we will be offering a new High Volume Low Complexity (HVLC) Cataract Surgery Hub at Heatherwood hospital which caters for 100 patients per week. The biggest focus of the cataract hub is to establish shared care decision making with our community optometrists plus early stage pre assessment in the community, improved patient information, ensure equity of access to care, with patients being seen as early as possible and preventing long delays.

As part of our opening, Dr Manju Chandran (our FHFT Clinical Lead Ophthalmologist & Regional Clinical Lead for South-East National Eye Care Transformation Programme) would like to invite you to an evening Webinar, ‘Transforming Cataract Surgery Pathways’. Please see full details below:

This state-of-the-art streamlined service will see patient’s whole pathway being completed in 60 minutes. We are offering surgery for both eyes at the same time for eligible patients avoiding multiple visits to the unit. Recent cataract audits at our current main site (Frimley Park Hospital) have been excellent. This will not only improve the patient experience but create a unique and upskilling environment for the multi-disciplinary team.

Please note, as part of our integrated service model, Ophthalmology services will continue to also be delivered at the Frimley Park site as well as our other out-reach clinics. To access the service please continue to refer via your current referral pathways.
