Services are grouped broadly as follows
NHS sight testing which has restricted eligibility according to the national memorandum of understanding and subject to GOS regulations

NHS commissioned extended primary eyecare services
Both BSol & Black Country ICBs commission the following services via Primary Eyecare, Services (PES)
Cataract pre-operative assessment
IOP repeat measures
Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) / Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS)
Most Cataract Independent Service Providers also offer Post Operative Assessment by accredited optometry providers.
Birmingham LOC supports the commissioning model of any willing and qualified optometry practice provider and have empowered Primary Eyecare Services Ltd to deliver and manage this on behalf of all Birmingham optometry practices that are registered with PES.
Primary Eyecare services is a company set up through LOCSU as a provider organisation to deliver extended primary eyecare services

Services for patients of GPs affiliated to Birmingham and Solihull GPs are commissioned by BSol ICB
Details of currently commissioned services
Cataract enhanced service
Once cataract identified
- Discuss findings with patients
- Exclude any comorbidities
- Check eligibility for this service
- Discuss procedure and risks
- Discuss options available
- Patient completes pre-op questionnaire
- Complete referral including pre cataract refraction info
IOP repeat measures service
- Patient identified as IOP above 23 in one eye and no other signs of glaucoma
- Repeat IOPs with slit lamp mounted Goldmann or Perkins
- Further repeat where indicated on second occasion
- Referral where indicated
CUES/MECS
- Identify eligible patients using PES CUES triage form
- Provide telemedicine as appropriate
- Provide F2F where indicated including OCT as per protocol
- Provide procedure, written order, advice and follow up as indicated
- Refer to other provider including IP optometrist, OCT assessment, intermediate Ophthalmology, GP or secondary care as appropriate
