General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) Contract

3 February 2023

NHS England – South East Region team have asked to share this with all contractors .

It is a national contractual requirement that GOS contractors are asked to complete and submit a Quality in Optometry (QiO) GOS contract compliance checklist once every 3 years, therefore we are writing to request that you complete this online.

The requirement for completing this declaration is for NHS England to monitor contract compliance. Practices that flag with incomplete assurance and other criteria, together with a small random selection of others, will be asked to participate in a compliance (mainly virtual) visit.

Action Required:

  • To complete the on-line Quality in Optometry (QiO) GOS contract compliance checklist.
  • The checklist and details of how to complete it can be found on the Quality in Optometry website
  • Complete your QiO checklist, and if necessary, an action plan to address any areas of non-compliance identified by no later than 24th February 2023. We recommend that you download a pdf copy of your submission for your own records.

The self-assessment will substantially reduce the number of practices requiring a contract compliance visit by us.  Failure to complete this by the deadline may result in a breach notice.

Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
