Zoom CET event guide

Joining

After registering for an event, you will receive a unique joining link, and this is the one to use at the time of the event. If no joining link is received after a couple of days (check your junk folder), try registering again, checking that your email address has been correctly entered.

Note that the email address used to register must match the address linked to Zoom account. This also means that only one person can join per Zoom account.

The best experience will be achieved if you join via a PC or laptop. You may join via a phone or tablet, but some of the steps below may not work. If you’re having problems joining from one device, try from another. Zoom might need an update on your device.

It’s best if you carry out all of the steps 1 to 4 below a few minutes before the webinar is due to start, to allow time to complete the process and download the software if required. Although this should be a quick process, you could risk losing your CET point if you struggle to get on.

  1. Open the link sent to you by Zoom.
  2. You may be prompted to download the free Zoom app, if this is not already installed on your device. Please do this to enable you to watch and participate in the event. You may have to then return to click the link in the email.
  3. Click the link to launch the application, if requested.
  4. Plug in your headphones, if using, and if required your webcam – please ensure these are enabled on your device – and select Join with Video. You will be shown the waiting room screen and can test your computer audio here if required.

Asking questions

Your microphone will be automatically muted during lecture sessions.

If you wish to ask questions during a lecture session, please click on ‘Chat’ in the options bar at the bottom of the screen (made visible by hovering over the lower part of the screen). Type in your question and press ‘Send’ (or ‘Enter’ if the ‘Send’ button is not visible). Questions are only visible to the host. When the presentation has ended, we’ll answer as many questions as time allows.

CET eligibility

You need to stay for the whole session, including the questions, to gain your CET point. Zoom tracks attendance and will note when you join and leave the session. Don’t worry if you lose connection briefly, as this won’t affect your CET eligibility. If you dial in to the event using your telephone to listen to the audio only you will not be eligible for the CET.

Technical problems

During the event if you are experiencing any problems please text Angela on 07788 424152.

Often, leaving the meeting and then re-joining immediately using the same link can resolve minor issues. This will not affect your eligibility to obtain CET points.
