Referrals

All routine referrals should be made via the GP

Dorset-Urgent-Eye-Care-Triage-Tool

The eye emergency email address EyeEmergency@uhd.nhs.uk has been disabled as it poses a governance risk, as it is not being used as intended for the transfer of information only. Please direct all emergency referrals to the telephone triage system as usual. If additional information is required, the triage nurse will give you an address to send it to . Referrals are only accepted with a history of less than 2 weeks.

 

All other referrals should go via the GP for electronic referral, or macula referrals via eye.unit@nhs.net. Post op or drop queries should go via the consultant secretary.

Wet AMD/ urgent macular referrals – these need to be sent to the secure eye.unit@nhs.net

Many thanks for complying with these instructions, as all other referrals will not be actioned and the patient remains the responsibility of the referrer.

Routine/Urgent 90 day Referrals: Bournemouth have asked all routine referrals to be sent via CHEC or the GP as these require ERS.

Suspect Wet AMD- direct pathway- email to– eye.unit@nhs.net:

Add clear title “MACULA FAST TRACK FOR SUSPECTED WET AMD” in the subject matter of your referrals to facilitate triage at the hospital.

NewsFlash:

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Ophthalmology department has paused accepting new referrals into the Paediatric Ophthalmology service, due to a vacancy within with consultant workforce.

This does not include Orthoptist and Optometrist led care and these referrals can continue to be accepted.

Referrals requiring a Paediatric Ophthalmologist opinion/ advice/ review, should be referred to UHD Ophthalmology Service for care, until further notice.
