Over the past few years, Durham LOC together with what was Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield CCG and North Durham CCG jointly set up a pilot service for people with a moderate to severe type of learning disability to help them gain better access to eye care in what is now the County Durham CCG area.

The aim of the service is to help people with a learning disability have their eyes tested at a local optical practice. You can download full details of how the service works here: Community Eye Care Pathway for Adults and Young People with a Learning Disability.

This pilot service is for moderate and more severely learning disabled people. Those people who have a mild learning disability can attend to see any Optometrist of their choice.

Practices taking part in the service display this Window Sticker:

A “5 Easy Steps” leaflet tells you how to go about using the service and lists the practices that are taking part.

The “Telling the Optometrist About Me” form can be downloaded and filled in to take to the practice.
