Glaucoma And MECS OSCE Event, Boots Opticians, Romsey – 31 January 2024

Hampshire LOC is currently organising a combined Glaucoma/MECS OSCE event  for Wednesday 31 January.

Subject to demand it is proposed that there will be 3 x Glaucoma sessions and 1 x MECS.

We are extremely grateful to our colleagues at Boots Opticians, Romsey for providing the venue for this event.

If you wish to complete the Glaucoma or MECS OSCE please email our Business Manager isilk@hampshireloc.org.uk providing your GOC number and current email address for correspondence. Final details regarding sessions etc  will be sent nearer the time by WOPEC directly.

The OSCEs will be funded for Hampshire practitioners, however failure to attend without reasonable excuse and less than one weeks notice will result in a request for payment from individuals concerned.

Registration Open:  Glaucoma Enhanced Referral Service: Local Accreditation Event – Tuesday 28th November 2023, 18:30-20:00

Primary Eyecare Services and Hampshire LOC are delighted to announce that they will be hosting a virtual accreditation evening on Tuesday 28th November 2023 18:30-20:00 for Optometrists practicing in Hampshire and surrounding areas.

We will be joined by Consultant Ophthalmologist, Mr Nish Srikantha who will be presenting a webinar on the subject of glaucoma, with an opportunity for Q&As at the end of the session.

1 CPD point has been applied for.

If you wish to partake in the Glaucoma Enhanced Referral service in your practice , it is mandatory to attend this evening webinar as a form of local accreditation. Along with completing WOPEC Glaucoma Level 1 and 2 qualifications, you will be fully equipped to provide the service.

The Hospital Eye Service at UHS –  new email address

This is to confirm the replacement email address for nhs.net previously in use at the Hospital Eye Service at UHS.  Please see email details below.

Eye_emergency@uhs.nhs.uk this is now active and is being monitored. The following message will be sent out after every email is received.

Thank you for your email. This inbox is for emergency referrals to the eye emergency department in Southampton General Hospital only. Please do not send non-emergency referrals to this address. This inbox is monitored regularly during our opening times 8am-7pm, 7 days a week. If you feel your patient needs same day assessment please do not send the patient directly to us. Please call our telephone triage line (023 8120 6592) who will be able to advise

There is a message on the nhs.net account advising referrers that the inbox is closing, with the above address for referrers to forward the email on.

The HES have advised they have a process in place to check for duplications.

Please could you dissemination the details above to your teams and relevant colleagues, partners etc.

In order for a call to the telephone triage line to move up through the queue quicker, please remind/ advise health professionals to choose a hidden option – press ‘8’ when the calling options are read out. This is often forgotten despite being circulated in the past. It will mean that health professionals will not wait as long in the queue – please do not share with patients.
