Communication via ICB regarding Winchester Hospital unable to see urgent eye patients
Please see the response from HHFT:
“Winchester EEC phone line is manned by a non-ophthalmic team (general outpatients) they have had some staffing difficulties recently. We are in the process of changing the way EEC is covered.
We anticipate from 1st April all calls will be diverted to Basingstoke where they will be triaged and booked in appropriately. The clinics will still run in Winchester however the admin and triaging will be dealt with by Basingstoke.
I am sorry this is the experience they have been getting and it is not what we want for the service.”
If practices continue to have issues after 01 April please contact Hampshire LOC and we will take the matter up again with the commissioners at the ICB.

LaserVision- CPD Event – 18 April 2024
LaserVision Consultant Ophthalmologists Nick Maycock and Nish Srikantha invite you to join them in Winchester on Thursday 18th April for the 2nd in their series of discussion workshops.
This time the focus is on Glaucoma – Nick will present and lead a discussion around an interesting paper on the effects of glaucoma drops on the corneal surface, following which Nish will share a recent case of his to demonstrate some important points in glaucoma management with respect to corneal surface disease.
Narrow angle management remains an ambiguous and challenging area of practice. With that in mind, Nish plans to help clarify things by referring to new guidance from recent literature, creating a straightforward plan using information on how patients are categorised and when they may need a referral to the hospital or private eye care services.
2 papers are available to help you prepare for the discussion and will be sent on receipt of registration. We really hope you can join us for what should be an informative and stimulating evening.
3 Interactive CPD points will be available at this event
