PPE & Heat Stress, Vacancy, Screen Eyestrain, CET Webinars And FODO News

12 June 2021

We have 6 items for you today:

  1. Personal Protective Equipment And Heat: Risk Of Heat Stress
The East of England NHS Gateway have issued the following email:

    Issue:

Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in warm/hot environments increases the risk of heat stress. This occurs when the body is unable to cool itself enough  to maintain a healthy temperature. Heat stress can cause heat exhaustion and lead to heat stroke if the person is unable to cool down.

Measures to control the temperature of clinical environments and enable staff to make behavioural adaptations to stay cool and well hydrated should be made. Staff may require more frequent breaks and the frequency of PPE changes may increase, with a resulting increase in demand.

30 Years of Quiet Eye Webinar

This webinar will outline the key material requirements for modern soft contact lenses, and how these material characteristics can affect comfort and physiology. In doing so, we will consider what role hydrogel contact lenses have in modern practice. Corneal oxygenation (and how this is predicted by laboratory measures such as Dk and Dk/t) will be described. The importance of material characteristics for wearer comfort will be explored. The presentation will also focus on an area which has received relatively little attention: the ocular inflammatory response to lens wear.
