Referrals To PAH, Webinar And FODO News

We have 3 items for you today:

  1. Urgent Referrals
    Essex LOC ​have asked us to send out the following:

    They have been advised by Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) that some referrals such as wet AMD are being referred to the GP for onward referral. They have asked us to remind everyone to use the correct speed of referral pathway as specified by The College. If you are unsure of the correct speed of referral, please post on the PAH Eye Casualty group. Routine referrals are to go to the GP.

    Current advice from PAH (as taken from the Referrals Contacts List on our website, HERE)  is as follows:

     Do not send to the hospital without speaking to someone in the eye dept. Phone 01279 827391 Ext 3018 Or 3090, Direct line: 01279 827158, or Email: tpa-tr.ophthalmology@nhs.net

     Urgent cases to be booked in:
    o Retinal detachment/Retinal tears
    o Cornea ulcer and perforations/laceration
    o Trauma o Herpes Keratitis
    o Acute diplopia
    o Sudden loss of vision
    o Scleritis
    o Acute closed angle glaucoma
    o Uveitis

     Send by email:
    o Wet AMD
    o Vein Occlusions
    o Proliferative DR

     Please send dry eye, blepharitis, chalazion, floaters, episcleritis to the nearest MECS

     Patients with wet AMD should either be sent into A&E or the optometrist should telephone the department first on 01279 827158, or try 01279 827 391 extn 3018 or 3090

  2. Webinar, “Demystifying Retinal OCT’s beyond the obvious”
    OCL vision are running another CET webinar, ‘Demystifying Retinal OCT’s beyond the obvious ‘ by Ms Rabia Bourkiza on Wednesday 6th July 2022 between 7.30 – 8.30PM. Target groups for 1 CPD Point are O and DO. Further information and registration can be found HERE.
  3. FODO News
