EyeCeeOne IOL Alert, GOS Contracts, CPD, FODO News

14 February 2023

Hi all

We have 4 items for you today:

  1. National patient safety alert – EyeCee One preloaded and EyeCee One Crystal preloaded intraocular lenses

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a  patient safety alert after becoming aware of cases of increased intraocular pressure in people recently implanted with the following IOLs only:

    ● EyeCee One preloaded

    ● EyeCee One Crystal preloaded

The MHRA alert can be found HERE, a joint statement by the AOP, the College, ABDO and FODO can be found HERE, and further information can be found on the AOP website HERE.

We have been advised that these IOLs are NOT used by CHEC, E&N HHT, PAH, WHHT, Optegra or SpaMedica.

The NHSBSA, on behalf of NHS England, will be delivering a non-interactive CPD lecture on this alert and how it affects GOS.
It will be a 30 minute lecture and will attract 0.5 point for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians. It is scheduled to be delivered on Monday the 13th February at 7pm. We apologise for the late notification but have only recently been advised ourselves.

Bookings can be made on the following website:
    https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/CPDbyNHSBSA@nhsbsa.nhs.uk/bookings/

  2. GOS Contract Management Moving to ICBs
As of 1st April 2023, the responsibility for GOS services will transition to the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).
It is most important that any contractors who have not responded to the emails from “Attain” (or to reminders sent via both Optometry East and the Gateway), should now confirm their details are up to date, as soon as possible.
If a reissued NHS contract is not in place by 1st April 2023, there is a possibility that payments for GOS could be withheld.

Please direct any completed responses or queries to england.optometryeast@nhs.net

If you hold a mandatory GOS contract and believe you have not received any communication from Attain, please contact OptometryEast on the email address above and they will be able to help you, and send you any necessary correspondence for your completion.

  3. Webinar  – “Overview of CHEC and CPD – Pre-Cataract and PostOperative Cataract Management”
CHEC are holding a virtual CPD event on Wednesday 15th February between 7pm and 9pm, hosted by the Clinical Director of Ophthalmology at CHEC, Mahmoud Rabie. They say “Optometry professionals attending for the full duration of the event will be eligible for 2 interactive CPD points”

Further information can be found on their flyer, HERE, and the registration form can be found HERE.

  4. FODO news
Is HERE, including Electronic referral update (NB, please let us know if any of your referrals are rejected for being in the wrong form/format so that we can bring these to the attention of the sector bodies and LOCSU), NIH reports that early anti-VEGF treatment for DR does not improve VA, and GOC consultations. Their update from 3/2/23 is HERE, including GOC renewal, Primary eye care wellbeing survey and NHSE Telemedicine.

Kind regards
