New guidance for staying safe at work
Employers are required to protect their workers from harm and to provide a safe working environment. They also shouldn’t subject workers to detriment for raising health and safety concerns, taking steps to protect themselves or refusing to attend a dangerous workplace.

We urge employers in the sector to take all reasonable steps to protect yourselves, your employees and your patients.

Our new guidance covers:

What to do if you’re scared to go into work
How to raise concerns with an employer
What to do if the workplace is unsafe
What to do if staff members are pregnant
How do I deal with patients

Please refer to the guidance for further information here, and if you do find yourself in a situation where you feel threatened or in danger – calling the police is the best course of action.

If you have any questions that aren’t covered in our new guidance, please get in touch with our employment team at employment@aop.org.uk
