AMD Fast-Track Pathway
Practitioners are reminded to use the Leeds wet AMD rapid access referral pathway, for urgent cases, who may benefit from prompt diagnosis and treatment. This can speed up the process and avoid unnecessary delays for the patient, who should be seen within 2 weeks.
A fast track referral form is available and can be sent as an email attachment direct to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Medical Retina team on leedsth-tr.wetamdreferral@nhs.net. This is now the preferred pathway.
OCT or fundus images can be attached to the email. Please ask for a read receipt.
Alternatively, the fast track referral form can be faxed direct to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Retina Team on 0113 206 7145.
To be eligible for treatment with Lucentis injections, patients would have to have VA better than 6/96, new symptoms and must be willing to consent to regular intra-ocular injections. Patients not meeting these criteria could be referred routinely if wished.
A summary of the pathway can be seen here.
