Optometry services review SWL (Southwest London)

The contract for these services will have expired on 31.12.2024. Primary Eyecare Service (PES) is managing the service on the ISWL LOC behalf. PES had some discussion with SWL ICB (integrated care board) with regards to the activity of CUES (COVID-19 Urgent eyecare service.

SWL ICB has asked SWL ophthalmology network to come up with recommendations with regards to future optometry services at SWL. SWL LOCs, ophthalmologists and GP agreed in principle what the recommendations are for SWL ICB with regards to optometry services at SWL.

The recommendations will include MECS with OCT and independent prescribing elements, single point of access service and glaucoma and cataract referral refinement.

The next steps are to establish the cost effectiveness of these recommendations and what impact these services will have on secondary care and patients’ outcome.
