EeRS Electronic Referral Platform pilot
2 October 2024
The rollout of the ‘EyeV’ electronic referral platform for the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) pilot across Optometry continues.
Details regarding how to onboard an Optometrist or an Optometry practice can be found HERE
There is no funding to support practices with onboarding and accessing this.
EyeV is not a commissioned Enhanced Optometry Service but a process to send GOS18 referrals directly to the main Ophthalmology departments securely. As of Oct 2024, locally only Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital (NuTH) is available on EyeV but this is expected to change in 2025.
Retinal photographs and OCT images can be attached and sent via this process. However, as these do not fall within the GOS contract, there is no obligation to send them on to Ophthalmology.
EyeV is not a mandated referral route and all other referral routes for Optometry remain in place ie. paper/NHS mail via the GP, fast track NHSmail for Wet Macula.
Further information regarding digital connectivity across Optometry can be found on the Association of Optometrists page HERE
