NuTH Cataract Services – REMINDER February 2025

Following a number of recent queries, please find below some reminders about the NuTH Cataract Services.

Pre-Op

If you are a provider of this service, please ensure all Pre-Cataract Assessments and onward referrals are sent via OPERA direct to NuTH for all patients who make this choice.

If you do not participate in the service currently and wish to do so, please see guidance below;

Practice Onboarding – OPERA

Onboarding as a Practitioner for OPERA – OPERA

Please contact the Local Optical Committee (LOC) for WOPEC codes if you require these.

If you do not participate and do not wish to join the service, please continue to refer as your normally would via the patients GP.

Post-Op Data Audit

If you have signed up to deliver this service, please ensure you complete the attached form and send to nuth.postcataractrefraction@nhs.net.

Please ask patients to bring any paperwork with them to their appointment as this will have their NHS number and MRN number on. Please make sure that this information is added to the form.

If they do not provide you with this information, please ensure you complete the correct Date of Birth and Name (no nicknames / shortened names, etc) and mark the return form that the MRN/NHS was not provided by the patient.

You may wish to call NuTH on 0191 2525421/4235 to get the MRN number.

The audit forms should not be used for referral/reporting post op complications, they are not clinically triaged.

If you note any post op complications, please refer these via your usual referral routes or ask the patient to call the PIFU number for further advice, 0191 2826612 / 4235 to get the MRN number.
