Funding for Higher Qualifications

Shropshire LOC have received funding from NHS England for optometrists currently performing GOS contracted services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to fund College-accredited higher qualifications to enhance the local optical workforce.
The first of these qualifications is the Professional Certificate in Glaucoma for which we have been allocated 10 places at Cardiff University. These will be split over 2 cohorts:
- 9th March 2025 cohort (commencement 3rd March 2025)
- 1st September 2025 cohort (commencement 22nd September 2025)

Please note:
- Only one application per performer will be considered
- Previous recipients of grants are entitled to apply for further qualifications
- Funding is only for the Professional Certificate in Glaucoma (OPT010 module) at Cardiff University which runs over the course of one semester (approx. 17 weeks).
- You must have completed OPT009: Glaucoma Foundation https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/optometry-vision-sciences/courses/postgraduate-taught/modules/opt009-glaucoma-foundation or the equivalent i.e. LOCSU Glaucoma (a free course available via the WOPEC website) within the last 5 years in order to enrol on this course.
If you would like to express your interest in undertaking this qualification in either the March or September 2025 intakes, please complete the application form below by Monday 6th January 2025.
If you are successful in securing a place you will be contacted by Wednesday 8th January 2025.
Further details on other College-accredited higher qualifications that will be funded by the LOC will be shared at the start of 2025.
