West Sussex Local Optical Committee

Welcome to the official West Sussex Local Optical Committee

West Sussex Local Optical Committee (WSLOC) is a statutory NHS body that represents practitioners providing General Optical Service (NHS) services in West Sussex.

It is the official organisation representing Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians and Optical practices in West Sussex.

Through this website we aim to provide eye care practitioners, other health care professionals and the public with information on all aspects of NHS eye care provision available within all regions of West Sussex.

We are keen to support and promote the community eye care services that are funded and available in West Sussex with a view to:

  • Reducing hospital lists
  • Providing local access for patients (less travel)
  • Providing seamless patient care across primary and secondary services
  • Improving collaboration between health professionals

West Sussex LOC exists:

  • to inform, advise and negotiate with NHS England Area Teams, Integrated Care Boards and other stakeholders, on matters affecting or liable to affect local ophthalmic practices, contractors and performers
  • to provide optometrists, other healthcare professionals, and the general public, with information on locally available NHS eyecare provision
Funding

WSLOC funding is received from NHS England with Primary Care Support Services and is called the Statutory Levy. This levy is derived from a percentage of each NHS eye examination conducted by all practices in West Sussex.

Our next meeting will be on 11th February 2025.
