If you need an emergency appointment for your patient, e.g red eye or flashing lights and floaters, please call 07922424502 to be directed to our Wirral HUB / Ophthalmic Coordinator.
Please note, this is not a sight test and there are restrictions to this service:
- The patient must be at least 2 years old.
- This is an acute service and therefore a longstanding issue will be refused.
- The patient MUST have a GP registered on the Wirral.
This is also known as a MECS (minor eye care service).
This service is designed to address minor eye conditions and is delivered by community optometrists with the relevant qualifications and experience. Whilst not an exhaustive list, some of the conditions covered are:
- Sudden or recent onset of blurred vision (also consider the appropriateness of a full eye examination to include refraction).
- Ocular pain or discomfort including some dry eye conditions.
- Red eyes.
- Foreign body removal.
- Epiphora (watering eye).
- Trichiasis (ingrowing eye lashes).
- Differential diagnosis of lumps and bumps around the eyes.
- Recent onset of diplopia (double vision).
- Flashes and / or new floaters in the vision.
Please note that patients may be dilated so please warn the patient NOT TO DRIVE to the appointment.
